Zach Eflin News
Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Zach Eflin was awarded a win in Monday's 5-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox after allowing three runs in five innings of work with two strikeouts and no walks. Eflin left the game with a one-run lead, and luckily for fantasy managers, the Tampa Bay bullpen finished the contest with four shutout innings. It was Eflin's second game in a row that he hasn't been able to whiff more than three batters, but it's the third game in a row in which he didn't allow a walk. Taking the good with the bad, Eflin will carry his 3.91 ERA into his next matchup against a Toronto Blue Jays offense that roughed up Eflin for six runs, including three home runs, on Opening Day.
Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Zach Eflin threw six shutout innings and struck out six in the Rays 2-0 extra innings win over the New York Yankees on Saturday. Though Eflin only gave up three hits, Tampa Bay's offense didn't show up until extra innings and prevented Eflin from picking up a deserved win. The right-hander now has back-to-back starts without allowing an earned run. It's a good sign after having giving up five-plus runs in two of his first three starts of the season. The 30-year-old now has a 3.68 ERA to go along with a 1.06 WHIP. He'll get a tasty matchup in his next scheduled start on Friday against the Chicago White Sox and will hold value in all fantasy formats.
Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Zach Eflin earned a quality start in Monday's victory against the Los Angeles Angels. The right-hander matched his season high of 6 1/3 innings and allowed six hits, no runs, no walks and struck out five on the evening, It was a nice turnaround from his previous outing, which was also against the Angels, but one that saw him allow five runs. Eflin has now made four starts on the young season with mixed results. For the season, he is now 1-2 with a 4.63 ERA and 1.20 WHIP. Despite a couple hiccups this season, managers should remain confident with Eflin and he is worthy of rostering in most formats. Eflin will look to keep it going versus the division rival New York Yankees on Saturday.

Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Zach Eflin had an outstanding first season with his new team in 2023. The 29-year-old went 16-8 with a 3.50 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and 26.5% strikeout rate in 31 starts and 177 2/3 innings pitched. Eflin swapped his four-seam fastball for a cutter to go with his sinker and curveball, although the cutter was his least effective pitch. His strikeout rate boost is difficult to explain, as his swinging-strike rates on his three main pitches stayed about the same, yet he got a considerable number of strikeouts with pitches he barely threw, specifically his four-seamer and sweeper. On the positive side, he did a great job limiting hard contact and keeping the ball out of the air. Eflin is currently being drafted at about pick 91 overall, making him the 37th pitcher off the board. His strikeout jump may not persist, but Eflin's strong command should help produce a solid ERA and WHIP, and while the Rays are notorious for having short leashes, Eflin pitched at least six innings in 61 percent of his starts last season. Overall, he isn't the most exciting starter but should offer a high floor, particularly at his current ADP.
