Jose Siri News
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Jose Siri is on the bench again on Friday for the Rays for the start of a series against the visiting division-rival New York Yankees. It's the third time in the last four games that Siri has been on the bench, and he's been losing playing time to Jonny DeLuca, who is in center field and batting sixth on Friday against Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt. It hasn't helped Siri's cause that he's slashing just .170/.255/.277 with two home runs, seven RBI, six stolen bases and 11 runs scored in his first 94 at-bats this year. The return of Josh Lowe to Tampa's outfield recently has been another factor working against Siri as the 28-year-old continues to lose playing time. DeLuca's fantasy stock is rising, meanwhile, as he's gone 7-for-20 (.350) with a homer, 10 RBI and two steals in his first six games with the team in 2024.
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Jose Siri is not in the team's starting lineup on Monday as they take on the visiting Chicago White Sox. Siri went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts in the last two games over the weekend to drop his season line to .176/.262/.286 in his first 91 at-bats of the year. The 28-year-old Dominican outfielder has added two home runs, seven RBI, six stolen bases and 11 runs scored in 31 games played. Siri hasn't played great defense either so far this year, so if he continues to struggle offensively, he could find himself on the bench more often now that Josh Low (oblique) is back from the injured list. Jonny DeLuca is starting in center field and is batting in the nine-hole for the Rays in the series opener against the White Sox and right-hander Mike Clevinger, who is making his season debut.
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Jose Siri has been hit with a three-game suspension from Major League Baseball for his role in Tuesday night's benches-clearing incident with the Milwaukee Brewers. Siri will appeal his suspension, but he's out of Wednesday's lineup anyway due to some minor soreness in his left thigh as a result of getting hit by a pitch on Tuesday. The 28-year-old was intentionally hit by a pitch from right-hander Freddy Peralta in the sixth inning before getting in a dust-up with reliever Abner Uribe in the eighth inning after he grounded out. Uribe threw the first punch before Siri retaliated. After a scheduled off day for the Rays on Thursday, Siri should return to the starting lineup on Friday for the series opener against the New York Mets while his appeal is heard.

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Jose Siri is a flawed hitter who brings an appetizing skill set to the table. The 28-year-old boasts power and a wealth of speed, as evidenced by his 25 home runs and 12 stolen bases across just 101 games in 2023. At the same time, he hit just .222, walked just 5.5% of the time and posted a massive 35.7% K% that ranked dead-last among 245 players that made at least 350 trips to the plate last season. His strikeout and walk numbers looked no better in the minors. Even with just 226 big-league games under his belt, it's fairly obvious what we have in the free-swinging speedster. ATC projects plenty of strikeouts and few free passes in 2024, but also 21 home runs and 19 stolen bases in 119 contests. You'll need to stomach the rollercoaster but Siri holds fair value with his 295.20 ADP.
