Josh Lowe News
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe went 2-for-4 with a walk in Tuesday's extra innings loss to the Boston Red Sox. One of Lowe's hits would be a solo home run off Nick Pivetta in the top of the first inning. The homer would be the first of the season for Lowe, who returned from the injured list last week. Since his return, Lowe has gone 8-for-25 with three runs scored. Lowe has hit second or third in every game since his return and could provide managers with a good blend of speed and pop moving forward after hitting 20 homers and swiping 32 bags in 2023. He is worth rostering in most formats.
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe (oblique/hamstring) was activated from the 10-day injured list ahead of the team's series opener against the Chicago White Sox on Monday. Lowe has battled through some injuries so far this season and spent most of spring training dealing with an oblique issue. Then, the outfielder felt some hamstring tightness a couple of weeks ago, which delayed his activation. However, the 26-year-old is now healthy enough to make his season debut on Monday. The left-handed slugger should be rostered in all formats heading into Week 7, especially after a breakout campaign in 2023. He hit .292 at the plate with 20 home runs, 83 RBI, and 32 stolen bases across 135 games last season.
Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash said that Josh Lowe (hamstring, oblique), whose expected return last Saturday from an oblique strain was further delayed by right-hamstring tightness, will resume a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham on Thursday and then be evaluated on a day-to-day basis. It was a minor setback for the 26-year-old. As long as he doesn't suffer another setback, he could make his season debut with Tampa at some point this weekend or early next week. There's no reason that Lowe should be available on waiver wires after he slashed .292/.335/.500 with an .835 OPS, 20 home runs, 83 RB, 32 stolen bases and 71 runs scored in 501 plate appearances over 135 games for the Rays last year.

Once a highly touted prospect, Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe spent a rather unexpected chunk of the 2022 season in Triple-A due in part to his high K% of 33.3% at the major league level. With the K% under control in 2023 (24.8%) and regular playing time, Lowe could have the season the Rays envisioned when they drafted him in the first round in 2016. The former 13th overall pick posted a .292-20-83-71-32 season with a WOBA of .354 and wRC+ of 131 in 501 PA. It's still being determined if he can replicate that in 2024, as RosterResource currently has him projected as part of a platoon. The lefty's splits were much better facing RHP, with a .300 AVG, .362 WOBA, and 136 wRC+ versus a .238 AVG, .305 WOBA, and wRC+ of 97 against LHP. As it stands, FGDC projections have him underwhelming compared to last season, with a .258-18-71-68-22 line, a WOBA of .328, and a wRC+ of 113. NFBC ADP has him going around pick 75. However, RotoBaller is a bit more cautious, with a rank of 81. With a below-average Contact% (72.3%), above-average SwStr% (14.7%), and BABIP of .357 in 2023, some expected regression in 2024 is likely rightfully justified.
