New York Yankees starting pitcher Marcus Stroman posted a scoreless outing in Wednesday's victory on the road over the Minnesota Twins, firing six inning of two-hit ball with three walks while fanning three. After surrendering four runs in 5 2/3 innings during his previous start against the Houston Astros, Stroman rebounded with his first scoreless showing since April 5. While the soft-throwing 33-year-old right-hander holds a respectable 3.33 ERA with 42 strikeouts through 48 2/3 frames this season, he's also walked 25 and recorded a troublesome 1.42 WHIP over nine starts. He'll get a pretty good matchup at home against the Seattle Mariners in his next scheduled appearance during Monday's series opener, when Stroman will be worth deploying in the majority of fantasy leagues on the heels of this strong performance.
New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge powered his team to victory on the road on Wednesday against the Minnesota Twins, rapping a home run with three doubles and two RBI in the win. Judge first clobbered a 469-foot homer off Twins right-hander Pablo Lopez before doubling in each of his next three at-bats, with the third scoring Juan Soto in the seventh inning. The 32-year-old fantasy superstar appears to have put his early-season swoon to bed at this point, now batting an absurd .444 with five long balls, seven doubles, 11 RBI, and 11 runs scored over his last 10 outings. He'll draw a tough matchup during Thursday's series finale against Minnesota with Joe Ryan taking the bump, as Judge is just 1-for-7 with one walk in his eight career plate appearances against Ryan.
The plan is for New York Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu (foot) to start a minor-league rehab assignment on Thursday or Friday with Double-A Somerset. LeMahieu will need a decent amount of games in the minors since he hasn't played in nearly two months. However, he did get some more live at-bats at the team's spring training complex on Wednesday. The 35-year-old veteran has yet to play in 2024 due to an injured right foot that just hasn't healed completely. LeMahieu had already started a rehab assignment late in April before playing in just one game before he was shut down. But he's ramped up his baseball activities of late and could finally be on the cusp of making his season debut with the Bombers. When LeMahieu finally returns, he'll likely be eased into playing time at third base in the Bronx. The three-time All-Star will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing 2023 season in which he hit only .243 (121-for-497) with 15 home runs and 44 RBI.
New York Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Rodon (4-2) picked up his fourth win of the season in a 5-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday. He produced a quality start along the way, finishing with six strikeouts and only one run allowed through six innings. After getting knocked around for six runs by the Baltimore Orioles, Rodon has put together back-to-back quality starts, only giving up three total runs in that span. The lefty has a 3.31 ERA on the season and is a lot more like the hurler they aspired him to be after signing with the club in the 2022-2023 offseason. Rodon's days of flirting with double-digit strikeouts every start are a thing of the past, but the Yankees will certainly take the fewer strikeout totals for the respectable ERA he has produced this season. Rodon is always good for an occasional hiccup, but fantasy managers can feel comfortable with him in their lineup against the Chicago White Sox on Sunday.
New York Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole (elbow) threw "about 36 pitches" in a bullpen session on Tuesday at the team's facility in Tampa, Florida. Manager Aaron Boone said Cole would next return to New York and characterized the outlook for Cole as "just onward and upward." That hopefully means Cole is close to facing live hitters in batting practice, considering he's now tossed several successful bullpen sessions. The 33-year-old six-time All-Star remains firmly on course to return to New York's rotation sometime in mid-June, assuming a minor-league rehab assignment begins in late May. Right-hander Luis Gil has filled in admirably during Cole's absence for the Yankees, boasting a 2.51 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and 48:26 K:BB across 43 innings (eight starts) in 2024, and he's gotten himself into must-roster fantasy territory ahead of Saturday's cushy assignment at home versus the last-place Chicago White Sox.
