Ricky Tiedemann News
Toronto Blue Jays pitching prospect Ricky Tiedemann (elbow) has resumed throwing from flat ground at the team's spring training complex in Dunedin, Fla., and it could be a couple more weeks until he's back throwing off a mound. It's good news for the Blue Jays' top pitching prospect and the No. 25 overall prospect in baseball, per MLB Pipeline. However, fantasy managers that are stashing Tiedemann in single-year leagues may never get to use him in 2024. There's no timeline for the 21-year-old left-hander's return to game action in the minors, and given the fact that he also dealt with an arm issue in 2023, Toronto certainly is going to slow-play their best pitching prospect. Before his elbow injury, Tiedemann was struggling to the tune of a 5.63 ERA with nine walks and 10 strikeouts in his three starts for Triple-A Buffalo.
Toronto Blue Jays left-handed pitching prospect Ricky Tiedemann (elbow) has been diagnosed with left ulnar nerve inflammation, and the team is hopeful that he can resume throwing in seven to 10 days. For now, the Blue Jays' top pitching prospect will avoid going under the knife, which would have no doubt ended his 2024 season. The club will be extremely cautious with the 21-year-old southpaw, though, especially after he got off to a slow start for Triple-A Buffalo by pitching to a 5.63 ERA and 2.00 WHIP with 10 strikeouts and nine walks in eight innings pitched. Tiedemann is still one of the very best pitching prospects in the game, but given his latest injury (he also dealt with an arm injury last year), it's probably unlikely that we'll see him in the big leagues in 2024.
Toronto Blue Jays top pitching prospect Ricky Tiedemann (elbow), who is currently on the injured list at Triple-A Buffalo, is seeing team doctors in Toronto this week. Per the Blue Jays, Tiedemann's next steps will be determined from there. It's usually not a good thing when pitchers are meeting with doctors, but we won't know the true extent of the young pitcher's damage until the results of his meeting with doctors is revealed. The 21-year-old southpaw has been dealing with elbow discomfort after recording a 5.63 ERA and 2.00 WHIP in his first three starts for Buffalo this year. Tiedemann also missed time due to shoulder and biceps issues in 2023, so it's concerning for the No. 26 overall prospect this year, per MLB Pipeline. Even if this isn't a season-ending injury for Tiedemann, we may not see him in the big leagues in 2024.

Toronto Blue Jays pitching prospect Ricky Tiedemann will probably have to wait a few months to get his call to the majors. Toronto's starting rotation is equipped with four good pieces and Alek Manoah will look to grab hold of the fifth spot this spring. It's a good place for Tiedemann, however, as he started 15 games in the minors last season. His starting in Triple-A will let the organization control his innings so he can get into MLB action when his time comes. ATC projects 48 innings pitched for the 6'4" lefty, with 55 strikeouts. He's one of the top pitching prospects in baseball, so he should be pounced on when word comes of his arrival in Toronto. If your league has deeper bench slots, and you can stash someone, Tiedemann could be a prime candidate for that. He offers three plus pitches that led to a 44.1 percent strikeout rate in 2023. That kind of stuff will help keep his ERA down even if his WHIP suffers a bit due to some control issues.
