Patrick Sandoval News
Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Patrick Sandoval improved to 2-5 in Tuesday's 9-0 win over the Pirates. Sandoval pitched seven innings, allowing just three hits and a walk with seven strikeouts. The 27-year-old has provided plenty of strikeouts but has been erratic and now owns a 4.85 ERA with a 10.38 K/9 rate and a 3.92 BB/9 rate in eight starts and 39 IP. His next scheduled start is a middling matchup against the Royals. Fantasy managers may want to keep him on the bench if possible until he can provide that he can pitch well consistently.
Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Patrick Sandoval tallied 10 strikeouts in Wednesday's 2-1 defeat to the visiting Philadelphia Phillies, tossing five innings of two-run ball on four hits and two walks en route to a loss. It was Sandoval's first game with double-digit punchouts since 2022, but Kyle Schwarber's two-run single in the second inning proved to be enough to saddle the hurler with a loss on a day the Phillies struck out 18 times. The 27-year-old southpaw will take an underwhelming 5.91 ERA, 1.69 WHIP, and 38:16 K:BB over 32 frames (seven starts) for the Halos into in his next scheduled appearance on Tuesday on the road against the struggling Pittsburgh Pirates, who are scoring just 2.4 runs per game over their last 21 contests.
Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Patrick Sandoval aims to shift gears from a rocky start to the season when he gets the ball during Tuesday's start at home versus the visiting Tampa Bay Rays and right-hander Aaron Civale. Sandoval fared far better in last Wednesday's win over the Miami Marlins, but he's still yielded five earned runs in 7 1/3 innings to begin the campaign and gave up nine runs in 11 1/3 spring training frames. The 27-year-old left-hander has thrown well in his past three appearances against the Rays dating back to 2022, posting a 2.87 ERA and 16 strikeouts over 15 2/3 innings. Sandoval is worth adding as a streamer ahead of Tuesday night's waiver wire runs in season-long fantasy leagues for a decent matchup, and he'll also be worth a look in DFS contests for those looking to go cheap at pitcher.

In 2021, Patrick Sandoval had a 3-6 W-L record, 3.62 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 94 Ks (87.0 IP) and then had an ADP of 198 for the 2022 season. Last year, Sandoval had a 6-9 W-L record, 2.91 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 151 Ks (148.2 IP) and now has an ADP of ~217. It's not often a pitcher can post a sub-3.00 ERA and still fall down draft boards, yet that is the case. And there is merit to that given Sandoval had a 3.91 xERA, 3.67 xFIP and 3.94 SIERA while his 9.4% BB% ranked in the 28th percentile. On the positive side, Sandoval's 47.7% GB% was higher than the league average (44.9%) despite dropping from 51.1% in 2021 and his 23.7% K% ranked in the 57th percentile. Sandoval also limits hard contact with a Barrel% ranking in the 76th percentile and a HardHit% ranking in the 79th percentile, both being similar to his 2021 numbers. Given Sandoval's xFIP and SIERA last year were both lower than in 2021, it seems a surprise that he is going later in drafts than he did last year, even after missing a month with a back injury. It's fair to expect regression on Sandoval's ERA but even then, he's a fine option to fill out your rotation in the later rounds.
