Logan O'Hoppe News
Los Angeles Angels catcher Logan O'Hoppe had a nice day at the plate in Tuesday's 9-0 win over the Pirates. O'Hoppe went 4-for-5 with four singles and two RBI. The 24-year-old backstop has put together a decent offensive campaign so far and is now slashing .279/.330/.404 with two home runs and 13 RBI in 113 plate appearances.
Los Angeles Angels catcher Logan O'Hoppe (hand) is back behind the dish and is hitting fifth for the Angels on Monday against the Pittsburgh Pirates and right-hander Mitch Keller. O'Hoppe left the game on Saturday early against the Cleveland Guardians after taking a foul tip off his right hand, but X-rays came back negative and he will end up missing only one game as a result. Fantasy managers that have been rolling with the 24-year-old will want to get him back into their starting lineups this week. O'Hoppe will return to a .260/.317/.396 slash line with two home runs in his 29 games played so far in 2024. This will be the first time in his career that he's faced Keller.
Los Angeles Angels catcher Logan O'Hoppe (hand) is not in the team's starting lineup on the road in Cleveland on Sunday against the Guardians. Unsurprisingly, O'Hoppe will begin the game on the bench after leaving Saturday's loss with a right-hand contusion. Matt Thaiss will catch right-hander Griffin Canning in the series finale and will bat sixth against Guardians right-hander Carlos Carrasco. For now, fantasy managers will want to consider O'Hoppe day-to-day heading into Monday's series opener in Pittsburgh against the Pirates. The 24-year-old backstop is off to a decent start in 2024, hitting .260/.317/.396 with two homers and 11 RBI in 96 at-bats. Thaiss, a former first-rounder in 2016 out of Virginia, doesn't have a homer yet in 24 at-bats this year but isn't a bad low-cost DFS option at the position for Sunday's slate of games.

Los Angeles Angels catcher Logan O'Hoppe was a name to keep in your back pocket to open the 2023 season. A power-hitting option at catcher, he had something to prove before being trusted, but had the potential to do so. A .283/.339/.547 slash line through the team's first 19 games was a great start. He was hurt during that 19th game, however, tearing the labrum in his left, non-throwing, shoulder. The 23-year-old would be out of action until Aug. 18. He didn't set the world on fire in August, but hit nine home runs in September, finishing the year with 14. O'Hoppe is ranked 201 with a 190 ADP heading into 2024. He ended with a .236/.296/.500 slash line in 51 games for the Halos in 2023. A projection with slightly higher average and on-base numbers but a lower slugging percentage seems like a good starting point for the backstop. His .264 ISO from 2023 would have placed him 10th in the league if he had enough at-bats to qualify. Steamer and FanGraphs project him for a .212 ISO in 2024, however. So while he may not push for the home run lead at catcher, it's feasible that the youngster pops somewhere between 20 and 25 if he plays a full season's worth of games. O'Hoppe is the 13th-ranked catcher by RotoBaller and has the potential to finish in the top 10, as there are seven catchers within 22 slots.
