Jonathan Bowlan News
The Kansas City Royals recalled right-hander Jonathan Bowlan from Triple-A Omaha and optioned right-hander Will Klein to Omaha in a corresponding move on Monday. Bowland will be making his 2024 debut with Kansas City to start in the series opener on Monday against the Blue Jays in Toronto. This will be the 27-year-old's second career start after he made his big-league debut in 2023, going 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, no walks and three strikeouts in just three innings pitched. Bowlan will help cover the rotation spot of Alec Marsh (elbow) for at least this turn through KC's rotation. In his 21 innings at Omaha this year, he has posted a 2.57 ERA and 1.10 WHIP with five walks and 21 strikeouts. Fantasy managers should consider him an extremely shaky streaming option in Toronto.
Kansas City Royals pitcher Jonathan Bowlan is set to make his big-league debut Wednesday night against the division-rival Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park in Detroit. The right-hander has largely worked as a starter between Double-A and Triple-A this season, tossing a 7.20 ERA across 10 appearances (nine starts) at Double-A before working to a 5.24 ERA across 14 outings (12 starts) at the Triple-A level. A 2018 second-round pick, the 26-year-old owns a career 4.69 ERA and 1.35 WHIP across 80 minor-league appearances (74 starts) spanning 362 1/3 innings pitched. He takes on a Tigers offense that ranks 29th with a .293 wOBA versus right-handed pitching on the season.
Kansas City Royals pitching prospect Jonathan Bowlan (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery next week, according to Anne Rogers of MLB.com. The No. 8 prospect in Kansas City's system according to MLB Pipeline, Bowlan was looking good on the mound at Double-A this season, going 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA and 25 strikeouts over 17 innings of work. Bowlan faced only two batters in his last start on Sunday striking out both of them before he exited the contest. He could have potentially had some value in redraft leagues later this season, but now only managers in dynasty formats should keep an eye on him.
