Jackson Holliday News
Baltimore Orioles infield prospect Jackson Holliday hit his first home run since returning to Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday. This was his third home of the season at Triple-A, and is riding a solid .309/.482/.531 line through 21 games. After tallying just two hits in ten major league games in April, Baltimore decided that it was best for their top prospect to build more confidence and return to Triple-A for the time being. Since returning, the 20-year-old has gone hitless in just five of his eleven games and looks to be comfortable at the plate again. However, fantasy managers may need to wait a bit longer to see Holliday back in the major leagues due to the crowded infield the Orioles currently have and the several other budding stars in their system who are vying for playing time.
Baltimore Orioles infield prospect Jackson Holliday went 3-for-6 with two singles and a double during his Triple-A appearance on April 30. The top prospect in baseball also drove in one run, scored twice, and logged two strikeouts. Holliday put together an elite start to the minor league season and earned a promotion to the majors in the middle of April. However, he struggled tremendously in Baltimore, going 2-for-34 with 18 strikeouts over his first 10 games. The Orioles sent him back to Triple-A Norfolk, and he's gone 4-for-14 in three games since his demotion. Even if Holliday goes on another tear, the Orioles may decide to be extra patient before calling him back up to the majors given how he struggled during his first taste of big-league action. Plus, it's not like the Orioles have a shortage of minor-league talent. Third baseman Coby Mayo has arguably been even more productive than Holliday, so he could be the next prospect to get the call.
The Baltimore Orioles optioned top prospect Jackson Holliday to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday. In corresponding moves, the team selected the contract of outfielder Ryan McKenna from Norfolk and designated catcher David Banuelos for assignment. Holliday, the top prospect in all of baseball, made his big-league debut on April 10 but disappointed at the plate in his limited time and has been sent back to the farm. The 20-year-old middle infielder has looked overmatched at the plate and had just two hits, an RBI, five runs scored, two walks and 18 strikeouts in his first 36 big-league plate appearances over 10 games. Holliday will most likely be back with the O's at some point in 2024, and he should remain stashed in all fantasy leagues in the meantime. With Holliday out of the picture for now, it will mean more playing time at second base for Jorge Mateo and Ramon Urias.

The Baltimore Orioles selected Jackson Holliday first in the 2022 MLB Draft and immediately hit the ground running. After spending the entire season as a 19-year-old, Holliday moved from Single-A Delmarva to Triple-A Norfolk to end the season, posting a combined slash of .323/.442/.499 with 12 home runs and 24 stolen bases. Having strong contact skills and an elite eye at the plate, Holliday was not fazed by better pitching as he moved up levels, making contact on over 82 percent of pitches in the zone while chasing at a rate under 20 percent. Considering the home run output, you may not think Holliday hits the ball hard. Still, he posted strong exit velocities in the minors, including a 91 mph average exit velocity. To get into more game power, Holliday will need to lift the ball more consistently. There is a strong possibility that Holliday makes the Orioles roster out of Spring Training, but even if he does not, he should be up rather quickly. His current ADP of 208 is a good value, especially since Holliday can provide in all five categories. FGDC projects Holliday to slash .255/.350/.383 with a .323 wOBA and a 108wRC+ across 126 games in 2024.
