Clayton Kershaw News
Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) threw his second bullpen session on Tuesday. Manager Dave Roberts said the session consisted of 20 pitches (all four-seam fastballs), and that Kershaw's left shoulder continues to feel good. His next steps will be ramping up in bullpens and mixing in breaking pitches. The skipper said it's all been "really encouraging" so far. The 36-year-old future Hall of Famer is recovering from left-shoulder surgery last November and is slowly ramping up as he attempts to return to LA's starting rotation after the All-Star break. Kershaw has been injury-prone in recent years, but when he's been healthy, he's been fantasy relevant with the best offense in baseball backing him.
Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) threw his first bullpen session post-surgery on Friday, according to manager Dave Roberts. Kershaw threw only 15 pitches in the session, but it's notable progress for the 36-year-old future Hall of Famer after he underwent left-shoulder surgery in the offseason. He still has a ways to go in his recovery, but Roberts said Kershaw "came out well" from the bullpen session. Fantasy managers stashing Kershaw in deeper leagues will need to remain patient, as the three-time Cy Young winner isn't expected to return to LA's big-league starting rotation until around the All-Star break in July. The 10-time All-Star is no longer at his peak, but he still went 13-5 last year with a 2.46 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 137 strikeouts in 24 starts when he was healthy.
Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) said he is feeling good about his recovery and is out to 120 feet in long toss. Manager Dave Roberts thinks that Kershaw is also "ahead of things" timetable-wise. His next step will be throwing bullpen sessions, but it's to be determined when that will take place. The 36-year-old future Hall of Famer had left-shoulder surgery in the offseason and is starting the year on the 60-day injured list. As he nears the end of his illustrious career with the Dodgers, injuries are beginning to take their toll on Kershaw. However, the three-time Cy Young winner was effective in his 24 starts in 2023, posting a 2.46 ERA and 1.06 WHIP with 40 walks and 137 strikeouts. Kershaw isn't going to be ready until sometime this summer, but if he's right, he can still be valuable in fantasy.

There were rumblings over whether Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw would return to the sport in 2024. But after resigning with the Dodgers on a two-year $10 million contract and receiving shoulder surgery, the future Hall of Famer is set to return to the mound late this season. An expected return in July/August for a 35-year-old starter will make any fantasy baseball manager antsy, but Kershaw's continued success should have you contemplating his stock in 2024. He was spectacular in 2023, with a 2.46 ERA, 26.2% strikeout rate, and 1.06 WHIP through 24 starts. While his performance was impressive, he showed signs of decay in 2023, with his 4.03 FIP, 89.3% left-on-base rate, and 7.6% walk rate (his highest walk rate since 2010) indicating that part of his success was due to good luck. Despite the regression, picking him at his current ADP of 528 is a good idea. His legendary track record, late-career success, and the presence of an elite Dodgers lineup make him a risky stash well worth taking at a 528 ADP.
