Max Muncy News
Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Max Muncy is out of the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the Atlanta Braves. The Dodgers have rewarded Muncy with a day off after his three-homer game on Saturday. This seems like a fitting time given the Dodgers are up against tough left-hander Max Fried. In his absence, Enrique Hernandez will cover third base and bat fifth on Sunday.
Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Max Muncy went 4-for-5 with three home runs and four RBI in Saturday's 11-2 win over the Atlanta Braves. The 33-year-old blasted a two-run shot off Bryce Elder in the second inning for his first homer of the game. He took Tyler Matzek deep in the seventh inning for his second homer. Muncy hit the trifecta, hitting a solo shot in the eighth inning off Jackson Stephens. The three home runs in a single game was a career-high. The veteran slugger is now up to eight long balls on the season, slashing .262/.369/.551 with 22 RBI and 20 runs scored over 31 games. Muncy will look to build on Saturday's career performance in the series finale against the Braves and should be started in all league formats.
Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy, shortstop Gavin Lux and outfielder Josh Outman, who all hit left-handed, are out of Saturday's lineup against left-hander Yusei Kikuchi and the Toronto Blue Jays. Enrique Hernandez will play third and bat sixth, Miguel Rojas is at shortstop and hitting eighth, and rookie Andy Pages is in center field and will bat seventh for the Blue. Muncy is hitting a modest .258 (23-for-89) this year with five home runs and 18 RBI, but he's gone just 5-for-25 (.200) with one homer and 10 strikeouts against lefties. Lux has struggled in general, hitting .183 (13-for-71) and has yet to go deep. Outman's fantasy stock has really fallen as he's fallen into a platoon with Pages. Hernandez is the DFS play to consider with a .256 career average and 55 homers in 1,417 plate appearances against southpaws. He's also hitting .308 in 13 career at-bats against Kikuchi.

Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy had himself a season in 2023. The veteran posted career-highs with 36 home runs and 105 RBI, ranking him second and first, respectively, among all big-league third basemen. He did so while exercising his typical patience at the plate as he walked in 14.7% of his plate appearance, although he did see a minor jump in his strikeout rate to 26.4% from his 24.5% career mark. While he hit just .212 and has hit below .200 in two of his last four seasons, the 33-year-old ranked in the 87th percentile in xwOBA and 90th in barrel rate. He has consistently underperformed his xwOBA but has ranked in the 76th percentile or better in that category in each of the last six seasons and the 87th percentile or better four times in that stretch. Considering he was arguably the best offensive third baseman in baseball last season, his 168.37 ADP as the 16th third baseman off the board seems rather suspect on a loaded Dodgers offense. If you can get him there, he could be the steal of the draft.
