Jeremy Chinn News
Free-agent safety Jeremy Chinn is expected to sign a one-year deal worth up to $5.1 million with the Washington Commanders, according to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report. The former second-round pick has spent his entire four-year NFL career with the Carolina Panthers, where he racked up 324 tackles, four sacks, three forced fumbles, two interceptions, and 17 passes defended in 54 games. He becomes the fifth defensive player Washington has agreed to terms with over the last two days, joining Dorance Armstrong, Frankie Luvu, Dante Fowler Jr., and Clelin Ferrell. New head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Adam Peters appear to be committed to improving from last year's defense that ranked dead-last in points per game allowed (30.5).
Carolina Panthers safety Jeremy Chinn (quad) was placed on the injured reserve list on Tuesday. The move to IR was not a complete surprise after ESPN insider Adam Schefter said last week that Chinn would miss up to six weeks. The Panthers' safety first suffered the quad injury in the team's Week 6 loss and went into Carolina's Week 7 bye hurt. Chinn is first eligible to come off the IR in Week 12 against the Tennessee Titans. But it sounds like he might miss more than that.
Carolina Panthers safety Jeremy Chinn (quadriceps) suffered a significant quadriceps injury in the Week 6 loss to the Miami Dolphins that is expected to sideline him for up to six weeks, according to league sources. Chinn doesn't need surgery, but he's also in the last year of his contract in Carolina and is scheduled to be a free agent after this season. The 25-year-old second-year safety/nickel cornerback is a key defensive back for the Panthers, so his injury is a significant loss for Carolina's defense moving forward. Through the team's first six games, Chinn has 23 tackles (15 solo), one sack, two tackles for loss and one pass defensed.
