Royce Lewis News
Minnesota Twins third baseman Royce Lewis (quadriceps) is doing some running on the field on Tuesday, and the Twins are ramping up his baserunning in what is described as a big week for his recovery. Lewis will do more aggressive change-of-direction stuff later this week, which will give us a better idea of a timeline for his minor-league rehab assignment. He still has a ways to go before we'll see him back in the big leagues, but it's nice to see that he's making progress for fantasy managers that have been stashing him since his injury. Lewis has been out since Opening Day on March 28, but his power/speed combination makes him a worthy stash in most fantasy formats. The Twins have plenty of options to play the hot corner until Lewis is able to return, but Jose Miranda has been seeing most of the opportunities there of late.
Minnesota Twins third baseman Royce Lewis (quad) saw doctors again for another checkup on Wednesday, and his latest MRI still showed some inflammation in his strained right quad. Lewis started sprinting on Wednesday alongside up to 80 swings in the batting cage a day, jogging on the warning track, and taking fielding drills hit directly to him, but there's still a lack of a concrete timeline for him to be cleared to ramp up his baseball activities. With the Twins exercising ample levels of caution with the 24-year-old former No. 1 overall pick, Lewis' return to the major-league roster is not expected to arrive before June. In the meantime, super-utility man and switch-hitter Willi Castro is bouncing around the diamond to help fill in for Minnesota and worth rostering in most fantasy leagues. In 21 games since April 17, Castro is batting .363 with two home runs, 12 RBI, 12 runs scored, and five stolen bases.
Minnesota Twins infielder Royce Lewis (quad) has been progressing well in his recovery, according to manager Rocco Baldelli. The 24-year-old is currently entering his fifth week of recovery from a right quad strain. The organization originally gave an eight-week timetable for Lewis when he first went down. It sounds like Lewis is increasing his baseball activities, so possibly he can beat the current time frame. Regardless, Lewis should be back in the Twins lineup before the end of the month. Fantasy managers will need to stay patient for a few more weeks.

Minnesota Twins infielder Royce Lewis was the No. 1 overall pick in 2017, but injuries have kept him from reaching his full potential. After playing zero games in 2020 due to the COVID-cancelled minor league season, a torn ACL in 2021 also caused him to miss that whole season. Lewis made his MLB debut in 2022 before tearing the same ACL 12 games in. He made his long-awaited return in late May of 2023 before a hamstring injury caused him to miss another month and a half. Lewis has been productive when healthy, slashing .307/.549/.913 with 17 HR, 57 RBI, 41 runs, and 6 SB over 70 regular season games (280 PA). If Lewis can stay healthy, those numbers extrapolated over 600 PA would look like 36 HR/122 RBI/88 R/13 SB. He showed he was back to full health last postseason, collecting five hits, four of which were homers. RotoBaller ranks him as 69th overall, but his current NFBC ADP of around 45th suggests managers anticipate a fully healthy season from the Twins' shortstop. Any missed time may result in Lewis not returning value at that ADP, so interested managers should take caution based on Lewis' inability to stay on the field. FGDC projects a .270-27-88-79-13 season for the 24-year-old with a .350 WOBA and 125 wRC+.
