Robert Suarez News
San Diego Padres closer Robert Suarez continued his excellent season, earning his 11th save in Monday's 6-3 win over the Cubs. Suarez entered the game in the bottom of the eighth inning up by three with one out and the bases loaded. He got a strikeout and a pop-out to escape the jam and stayed on to pitch the ninth, delivering a 1-2-3 inning with two more strikeouts. The 33-year-old has been one of fantasy's best closers this season, converting all of his save opportunities with a 0.59 ERA in 15 1/3 innings of work.
San Diego Padres closer Robert Suarez worked a perfect 1-2-3 inning to secure his 10th save of the season on Tuesday versus the Cincinnati Reds. Suarez recorded one strikeout and lowered his ERA to a pristine 0.71 on the season. Suarez has been dominant out of the bullpen for the Padres and hasn't made the club miss former closer Josh Hader, who left to sign with the Houston Astros this offseason. Suarez hasn't struck out many batters this season with 11 in 12 2/3 innings, but he continues to get the job done and should be rostered in all formats.
San Diego Padres closer Robert Suarez moved to a perfect 8-for-8 in save opportunities in Monday's 3-1 win over the Rockies. Suarez came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth inning up by two. He allowed a leadoff double, got the first out on a flyout, allowed a single, and got the final two outs on a ground-ball double play. Despite several off-season bullpen acquisitions, the 33-year-old has emerged as one of fantasy's top closers for the Padres with a 0.84 ERA and a 7.59 K/9 rate.

Robert Suarez has the inside track to the closer job in San Diego. Manager Mike Shildt mentioned Suarez and Yuki Matsui as the frontrunners to close out games. The 33-year-old Suarez had been in a high-leverage role behind Josh Hader, who signed with the Astros via free agency. Suarez features a high-octane fastball at 97.6 MPH and an above-average changeup. Matsui may need some time to acclimate to the MLB game coming over from Japan. The ATC projections are more bullish than others, with 18 saves and a 3.78 ERA. Suarez has an NFBC ADP of 212, so it all depends on how he fits your team build and what you need from the closer position. Beware that this could quickly become a timeshare with Matsui once he gains experience.
