Robbie Grossman News
The Texas Rangers acquired outfielder Robbie Grossman from the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday in exchange for right-hander Anthony Hoopii-Tuionetoa, according to the Rangers. The 34-year-old switch-hitting veteran will return to the Rangers after he hit .238/.340/.394 with 10 home runs and 49 RBI in 115 regular-season games with the World Series champions last year. In 25 games with the White Sox this year, Grossman had gone 15-for-71 (.211) with no home runs, four RBI and two stolen bases in 85 plate appearances. Grossman isn't going to hit for average but has solid on-base skills and will give the Rangers another bat off the bench for the time being with rookie Wyatt Langford (oblique) currently on the 10-day injured list.
Robbie Grossman will be leading off and playing right field for the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday in Chicago's road game against the Cleveland Guardians. Grossman has struggled this season as he has yet to record a hit in 11 at-bats while striking out three times but has walked twice. Grossman signed a minor-league deal with the White Sox and had his contract selected after hitting .400 with two home runs and five RBI in Triple-A.
Chicago White Sox outfielder Robbie Grossman will get a chance to serve as the team's leadoff hitter with both Luis Robert Jr. (hip) and Eloy Jimenez (groin) on the injured list. The White Sox brought Grossman up from Triple-A Charlotte on Friday, and he's started two of the three games since. The 34-year-old veteran switch-hitter went 0-for-5 in the leadoff spot on Sunday in the loss to the Kansas City Royals, but manager Pedro Grifol said that Grossman will get more opportunities there. Andrew Benintendi will be the biggest loser fantasy-wise after being dropped to the fifth spot in the order on Sunday. Grossman can be a decent source of runs and on-base percentage now that he'll be hitting leadoff and playing often with Robert and Jimenez sidelined, making him worth a pickup at least in AL-only fantasy leagues.

Positioned at the top of the Detroit Tigers batting order, outfielder Robbie Grossman enjoyed a highly productive breakout year in his first season in the Motor City. Grossman logged 671 plate appearances for A.J. Hinch's team, hitting .239 with a .357 on-base percentage, 23 home runs, and 20 stolen bases. He was more valuable in leagues where on-base percentage was part of the scoring, but it was a quality fantasy season nonetheless. Only nine other players collected at least 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases. Grossman should continue to be productive next season for the Tigers thanks to his on-base skills, over-the-fence power, and stolen base potential. Another 20-20 season certainly isn't out of reach, and he could eclipse his 88 runs scored from last season by a considerable margin with Javier Baez hitting behind him. Eventual Major League debuts by Spencer Torkelson and Riley Greene should only help add to Grossman's fantasy value as a table-setter near the top of the Tigers' lineup. The outfielder's ADP per NFBC is 172 at the moment. If you can draft him somewhere in that range between now and Opening Day you'll be well on your way to building a successful fantasy roster.
