Rhys Hoskins News
Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins (hamstring) has been placed on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday. The hope was that this was a minor issue after Hoskins was absent from the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game. That was not the case as the team placed him on the injured list shortly after releasing the lineup. This is a shame considering the 31-year-old was finally starting to heat up at the plate. In his absence, Jake Bauers will cover first base for Tuesday's game. He figures to see more time at the cold corner while Hoskins is out. Also, Owen Miller has been recalled from the minors and is an option at first base as well.
Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins (hamstring) is not in the team's starting lineup on Tuesday against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates. It shouldn't come as a big surprise after Hoskins was forced out of Monday's contest early due to a right-hamstring injury. The 31-year-old right-handed slugger was expected to undergo an MRI exam on Tuesday to determine how serious his hamstring issue is. Hoskins is going to have a second opinion as well, so fantasy managers shouldn't be surprised if an injured list stint looms. With Hoskins out on Tuesday, Jake Bauers is at first base and is batting fifth against Pirates right-hander Quinn Priester. Bauers is currently hitting .244/.326/.476 with an .802 OPS, four home runs, 21 RBI, four steals and 12 runs scored this year and could become more popular in fantasy leagues if Hoskins is forced to the IL.
Updating a previous report, Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins (hamstring) said that he will undergo an MRI exam on Tuesday after leaving Monday's 8-6 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates with a hamstring injury. We'll have a better idea of how much time Hoskins might have to miss once his MRI results are known, but fantasy baseball managers should be preparing for a potential trip to the injured list. Before hitting the showers early on Monday, Hoskins singled in his only at-bat to raise his batting average to .233 with an .814 in his first year in Milwaukee. The former fifth-round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies in 2014 out of Sacramento State has provided plenty of power (nine home runs) and run production (27 RBI) after missing all of 2023 with a torn ACL in his knee. Check back on Tuesday for Hoskins' MRI results.

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins enters the 2024 season in unfamiliar territory as the veteran slugger will play his first game for a franchise other than the Phillies. Hoskins missed all of 2023 with a torn ACL and will look to get back on track with the Brewers, who signed Hoskins to a two-year contract this offseason. For Milwaukee, it's a solid bet as Hoskins was one of the most productive power hitters in baseball between 2018 and 2022. Excluding the pandemic-shortened season, Hoskins swatted between 27 and 34 homers every year since 2018 and posted a slugging percentage over .450 in every season in that span. Hoskins provided steady power while displaying excellent on-base skills with a 13.5% career walk-rate and a career strikeout-rate that is also better than league average. Toss in a sky-high 48.4% fly-ball rate and Hoskins is primed for a bounce-back season in the hitter's paradise that is Milwaukee. There is, of course, some risk of a decline in production after not playing baseball for over a year, but at just 30-years-old, there's a good chance Hoskins can come back as strong as ever. With an average draft position outside the top-180 overall picks, Hoskins is a solid gamble for inexpensive power late in fantasy drafts.
