Matt Chapman News
San Francisco Giants outfielder Jung Hoo Lee and third baseman Matt Chapman are both receiving the day off for Thursday's series finale in Colorado against the Rockies. Austin Slater is starting in center field and is batting sixth, while Wilmer Flores is manning the hot corner and is batting cleanup against Rockies right-hander Cal Quantrill. Lee is currently riding a six-game hitting streak but will take a seat for the first time since April 24. Chapman has cooled off at the plate after a hot start in the first month of the season. It's his first day of rest since April 20. Flores is hitless in four career at-bats against Quantrill and is hitting just .213 (19-for-89) on the year with one home run and 13 RBI in 32 games, but he'll be a DFS sleeper on Thursday in the cleanup spot at hitter-friendly Coors Field.
San Francisco Giants third baseman Matt Chapman is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's afternoon contest against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks and right-hander Zac Gallen. Chapman did his part on Friday by going 1-for-3 with a double and a walk but his team was blown out to the tune of a 17-1 final score as the Giants mustered just four hits on the night. The 30-year-old has flashed some power with four homers and five doubles on the young season but is also hitting just .205 with a .677 OPS across his first 90 trips to the plate in a Giants uniform. The Giants are just 9-12 on the young season despite a busy offseason that saw them add a number of notable free agents, including Chapman.
San Francisco Giants third baseman Matt Chapman went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's loss versus the Miami Marlins. The veteran is now up to four homers on the season, but is hitting a weak .205. Chapman has never been a big contact hitter with a career ,240 batting average, but the power has always been there and that is showing with his new team thus far. At this point in his career, Chapman is what he is and fantasy managers seeking power can give him a look with the knowledge that he will hurt managers batting average.

San Francisco Giants third baseman landed a three-year deal with the club this winter on the heels of a solid season with the Blue Jays in 2023. The veteran hit .240 with 17 home runs, 39 doubles, and a .754 OPS across 140 appearances a season ago. At the same time, he only drove in 54 runs and offers little speed with a career-high four steals last season. The fact Chapman managed just 17 homers in a favorable home run park at the Rogers Centre in Toronto does not bode well for his home run upside at Oracle Park in San Francisco. According to Statcast, the Rogers Centre sits 14th in terms of home run factor at 104 over the last three seasons while only three ballparks have suppressed homers more than Oracle Park and its 84 home run factor in that time. ATC still projects 24 home runs and 70 RBI for Chapman in 2024 and he's currently the 24th third baseman coming off draft boards this spring, giving him fair value even with the unfavorable change in venue.
