Luis Arraez News
San Diego Padres designated hitter Luis Arraez is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday with the team facing Colorado Rockies left-hander Austin Gomber in the series finale. With Arraez getting a day to rest, Manny Machado is serving as the DH and is hitting cleanup, while Donovan Solano is at third base and batting sixth. Outfielder Jurickson Profar moves back up to the leadoff spot. Arraez is hitting .303 (54-for-178) on the year and is 13-for-41 (.317) with two doubles, no home runs, four RBI, a stolen base and five runs scored in his first 10 games with the Friars. Fantasy managers should expect him back in the lineup on Friday for the series opener in Atlanta against the Braves. Profar, who has been on a heater so far this year with a .324/.416/.520 slash line with a .936 OPS, will have increased DFS value back in the leadoff spot against a pitcher that he's hitting .375 against in his career with two RBI in eight at-bats.
San Diego Padres designated hitter Luis Arraez went 1-for-4 with a single and an RBI in Friday's 2-1 win over the Dodgers. While he had just one hit, it was a big one, as it came in the bottom of the ninth in a tie ball game and drove in the winning run. It was the perfect ending to his first home game as a Padre. The two-time batting champion is now hitting .311 on the season with a .358 OBP. He'll help fantasy managers in batting average and runs scored (27 runs scored in 2024), but doesn't hit for power and doesn't steal bases. Hopefully there will be more RBI opportunities in San Diego (only seven so far) than there were in Miami.
San Diego Padres second baseman Luis Arraez (rest) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Chicago Cubs. This appears to be a routine rest day for Arraez against tough left-hander Shota Imanaga. The 27-year-old infielder was acquired by the Padres over the weekend. He has five hits and one RBI since joining the team. In his absence, Xander Bogaerts will cover second base and bat fifth on Tuesday.

Miami Marlins second baseman Luis Arraez won his second consecutive batting title last season, this time in the NL, and there's no reason to think he won't make a run at a third in 2024. The 2x All-Star has elite hitting skills, with a K% of 5.5%, Contact% of 93.8%, and SwStr% of 3.1% in 2023, all on par with career numbers. That has translated into high BA (career .326) and high OBP (career .379). Unfortunately for fantasy, the lefty's got a career Barrel% of 3.0% and HardHit% of 27.6% which has resulted in few home runs, although he hit a career-high 10 HR in 2023. The 26-year-old is also not very fleet of foot, with a 22nd percentile sprint speed that produced just three stolen bases last season. Not hitting for power (career ISO of .101) and not stealing bases means you aren't getting into position to score. Arraez scored just 71 times in 2023 while producing just 69 RBI. Other than points leagues, his fantasy value gets depressed, with an NFBC ADP of 161, right around where RotoBaller ranks him (160). ATC projections look similar to the 2023 season, forecasting a .319-9-59-80-4 line with a WOBA of .348 and wRC+ of 118.
