Logan Allen News
Cleveland Guardians left-hander Logan Allen took the loss in an 8-2 defeat at the hands of the Houston Astros on Thursday. Allen allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings while striking out five and walking one as his record fell to 3-2 on the year. Most of the damage came via a two-run homer off the bat of Jon Singleton in the sixth inning. It has been a slow start to the season for the lefty as Allen now has a 5.11 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP across 37 innings of work. That being said, Thursday's start against the Astros provides a slight glimmer of hope for the southpaw who broke out as a rookie in 2023. He will look to keep it going in his next start, which is slated to come on Tuesday against the Detroit Tigers at home.
Cleveland Guardians left-hander Logan Allen will be in search of some improved results on Thursday when he takes on the hosting Atlanta Braves. The 25-year-old owns a 5.06 ERA through five starts on the season, allowing at least three earned runs while pitching fewer than six innings in four of his five outings. Aside from six shutout innings over the Mariners on April 3, Allen has otherwise yielded 15 earned runs across 20 2/3 innings of work. There is a chance for positive regression moving forward considering Allen's 4.23 xFIP and 4.31 SIERA on the season, figures well below his surface ERA. Of course, he'll have his hands full against a Braves lineup that ranks first in baseball with a .363 wOBA on the season.
Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Logan Allen blanked the Seattle Mariners in Wednesday's 8-0 blowout victory, spinning 6 2/3 scoreless innings on four hits and three walks with six strikeouts and tallying a win. Allen is now 2-0 on the infant season, scattering three singles and a double in what was one of the most impressive starts of his young career. The 25-year-old left-hander is battling with veteran Carlos Carrasco to maintain a spot in Cleveland's rotation after Gavin Williams (elbow) returns from right elbow inflammation, but Allen is starting to pull away in the competition via a 2.31 ERA and 1.11 WHIP while fanning nine covering his first 11 2/3 frames of the year. He'll have a great chance to build on his early-2024 success in his next scheduled start next Tuesday, when the Guardians host the division-rival Chicago White Sox.

Logan Allen doesn't have overpowering stuff, but that didn't stop him from having a very productive rookie campaign. In 24 starts (125.1 IP), Logan had a 7-8 W-L record, 3.81 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 119 Ks. Allen has had trouble with his control over the last two years. He had a 10.6% BB% in Triple-A (80.0 IP) and that manifested in the Majors with an 8.9% BB% last year. That contributed to an elevated WHIP, but so too did a .314 BABIP which should maintain in 2024. With a fastball that averaged 91.4 MPH, Allen needs to be more careful with his location which will likely ensure his walk-rate is never better than average. After striking out 346 batters in 265.1 IP, Allen may have room to improve his 22.2% K% from last year, increasing his fantasy value. Allen did have a 4.28 xFIP and 4.49 SIERA which suggests we see regression in his ERA moving forward. That will be linked to whether or not Allen can get more strikeouts and his projections have him with a ~4.20 ERA. Assuming Allen can make improvements in his sophomore campaign, there's potential to be a top-50 starting pitcher in 2024.
