Kenley Jansen News
Boston Red Sox closer Kenley Jansen tossed a clean ninth inning to pick up the save in a 3-2 win over the Washington Nationals. Jansen allowed just a hit in his inning of work, with no walks or strikeouts to account for. The veteran closer pitched on a third consecutive day for the first time this season, a move made possible because of his sparse usage in May, with only one other appearance before this weekend. Although he's had a few shaky outings, Jansen has been mostly solid for the Red Sox this season and should continue to see the bulk of their save opportunities. He is a good closing option in fantasy.
Boston Red Sox closer Kenley Jansen retired all three batters he faced on Saturday as he picked up his sixth save of the year in a 4-2 win over the Washington Nationals at Fenway Park. Jansen fanned two of the three batters who came to the plate, with 12 of his 16 pitches finding the strike zone. He lowered his ERA to 2.84 in 12 2/3 innings this season and has yet to allow a home run. His 13.1 K/9 rate is Jansen's highest since averaging 14.4 K/9 during the 2017 season with the then-National League champion Los Angeles Dodgers. Fantasy managers should continue to roll with Jansen in all league formats.
Boston Red Sox right-hander Kenley Jansen struck out the side to earn the save in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Jansen entered Saturday's game in the ninth inning to protect a two-run lead. The 36-year-old struck out all three hitters he faced to earn his fifth save of the year. Jansen has converted 5-of-6 save chances with a 2.35 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, and 12 strikeouts over 7 2/3 innings in 2024. Fantasy managers should continue to roll with Jansen as he continues to rack up saves as Boston's primary closer.

Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Kenley Jansen enters the 2024 season under a cloud of uncertainty as the veteran reliever has been the subject of trade rumors all offseason. A potential trade from Boston shouldn't affect Jansen's fantasy value however, as the 36-year-old is still a prime candidate to rack up saves no matter where he pitches. Except for the shortened 2020 season, Jansen posted at least 25 saves every year since 2012 when he first seized the closer role for the Dodgers. Over that decade of dominance, Jansen was regularly a top closer in fantasy. He consistently posted elite strikeout totals thanks to an eye-popping 35.9% career k-rate and had eight seasons with at least 30 saves, and four seasons with at least 40 saves. Father Time, however, remains undefeated and Jansen clearly declined last year in Boston as his 27.7% k-rate was the lowest of his career and he failed to reach 30 saves for the first time since 2015. Still, a lesser version of Jansen is still a start-worthy reliever in fantasy as his 29 saves, 3.63 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 52 strikeouts across 44 innings still placed the right-hander among the better closers in baseball. Whether it's Boston or elsewhere, Jansen should open the season as his team's closer thanks to a lengthy track record of success. Draft him with confidence as a top-20 RP in fantasy.
