José Berríos News
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Jose Berrios hit his first snag of the season in Tuesday's 10-1 loss to the Phillies. Berrios pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing eight runs on seven hits (including two home runs) and two walks with seven strikeouts. He also hit two batters. Despite the rough outing, the 29-year-old has pitched well this season with a 4-3 record, a 2.85 ERA, a 7.23 K/9 rate, and a 2.85 BB/9 rate. Things won't get easier for him in his next scheduled start at the Orioles, but hopefully, Berrios can pitch more in line with his season numbers.
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Jose Berrios pitched well but took the loss in Tuesday's 4-1 game against the Royals. Berrios pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits (including a two-run home run) and a walk with three strikeouts. He also hit a batter. The 29-year-old has been excellent overall this season, going 4-2 with a 1.44 ERA in seven starts and 43 2/3 IP. He will look to keep things going in his next start, which will likely be at the Phillies.
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Jose Berrios threw six innings of shutout ball in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Padres, picking up his league-leading fourth win of the season. The outing was also his fifth straight quality start to begin the year and third straight in which he hasn't allowed a run. The 29-year-old is off to a great start, going 4-0 with a 0.85 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and a 27:9 K:BB. With a career ERA of 4.06 and 1.24 WHIP, however, he could be a good sell-high candidate. Either way, his next start lines up with what could be a pitchers' duel next Thursday against Cole Ragans and the Royals.

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Jose Berrios isn't the trendiest pick to make in fantasy drafts, but the 29-year-old still has value thanks to the sheer number of innings he's capable of providing. Berrios has made 32 starts in every full season dating back to 2018 and has tossed at least 172 innings every season except for the shortened 2020 campaign. That incredible consistency makes Berrios a bit of an ironman by modern baseball standards, but a decline in production since joining Toronto in 2021 may make fantasy managers pause before drafting the 29-year-old. Specifically, the 2022 season was rough for Berrios; he pitched to career worst marks in ERA (5.23), WHIP (1.42), K-rate (19.8%), and virtually every other statistical category. He bounced back last season, however, as his pitching line of 11 wins, 3.65 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 23.5% K-rate were more in line with his career-norms. Berrios is unlikely to post gaudy strikeout totals, but he should provide better than average ratios while racking up enough innings to make a positive impact in fantasy. How valuable Berrios is depends largely on league size. In shallow formats, Berrios' limited upside doesn't elevate him much higher than replacement-level production available on waivers. However, the deeper the league, the more value Berrios provides as a stabilizer for a fantasy rotation, whose workmanlike production can be had for a pick outside the top-150 overall selections according to average draft position.
