Drew Thorpe News
Chicago White Sox starting pitching prospect Drew Thorpe continued his excellent start to the season with another shutout performance. In this outing, he tossed five innings with five strikeouts and allowed just two hits and two free passes en route to his fifth victory of the season. The 23-year-old performed very well in Double-A last season and has carried that dominance into this season with a stellar 1.01 ERA, 0.84, and 33:9 K:BB ratio in 35 innings. The third-ranked prospect in the White Sox system is on the verge of being promoted to Triple-A, making him an intriguing stash candidate in redraft formats in the coming months as he could push for a late-season promotion and should be able to make an immediate impact with his elite strikeout potential.
Chicago White Sox pitching prospect Drew Thorpe improved to 4-0 on Wednesday for Double-A Birmingham. Thorpe tossed six innings and allowed one run, one walk and struck out three on the evening. Thorpe's strong outing improved his ERA to a miniscule 0.75 on the season. Thorpe, 23, was a popular name this offseason as he was first traded by the San Diego Padres in the Juan Soto deal and then dealt to the White Sox when they acquired Dylan Cease. Regardless, Thorpe hasn't let the switching of homes deter him from dominating on the mound. Thorpe is behind fellow pitching prospect Noah Schultz as far as pitching rankings go, but he looks more ready for the big-leagues with Schultz still in High-A. Thorpe should get an opportunity at some point for an embarrassing White Sox club, but don't expect many wins when that happens. Outside of dynasty leagues, Thorpe can be avoided.
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Drew Thorpe was unable to find much success at all during Monday's game against the Cleveland Guardians. The right-hander allowed six straight hits to start the game which resulted in a six-run inning for Cleveland. Thorpe lasted 2 2/3 innings allowing 10 hits and eight earned runs on Monday. The 23-year-old was acquired in the trade that sent Dylan Cease to the San Diego Padres. The hope was that Thorpe could possibly be on the Opening Day roster. However, it's tough to imagine that happening if he continues to struggle like he did on Monday.

Drew Thorpe, currently ranked as the 85th overall prospect on MLB Pipeline, was a significant piece in the Juan Soto blockbuster trade earlier this winter, sending him to San Diego. Thorpe was drafted with the 61st overall pick by the New York Yankees from Cal Poly in 2022. The right-handed pitcher started 18 games in High-A and four games in Double-A last season. Thorpe registered a 2.81 ERA in High-A, a stellar 1.07 WHIP, and 138 punchouts across 109 innings. He continued that success in Double-A, where he posted a 1.48 ERA, a .066 WHIP, and 44 strikeouts across 30.1 innings. Thorpe generates most of his strikeouts off his changeup, which is considered his best pitch. Even in a small sample size, the Cal Poly product performed at an even higher rate in Double-A, which shows there could be even more signs of growth as he progresses through the minor leagues. While Thorpe may not receive a call until later in the 2024 season, he is on track to becoming a coveted pitching prospect in dynasty and keeper leagues. However, if he were to impress in Spring Training, the call to Petco Park may happen sooner rather than later.
