Cal Raleigh News
Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh was originally sitting out Tuesday's game for rest purposes. However, the switch-hitting backstop came up clutch for the team when called upon as a pinch-hitter. Raleigh was asked to step up to the plate with the bases loaded versus left-hander Steven Okert in the seventh inning. Raleigh blasted a breaking ball for a grand slam to help the Mariners get the victory over the Minnesota Twins. Raleigh struggles in some categories, but he leads the team in homers and RBI right now.
Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh (rest) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Minnesota Twins. The switch-hitting backstop will get a day off after going 2-for-15 over his last four games. To be fair, Raleigh did have two home runs during that span which is what he's known for doing. Seby Zavala will be behind the plate and bat ninth versus right-hander Bailey Ober.
Seattle Mariners backstop Cal Raleigh will receive the day off on Sunday as the Mariners look to complete a three-game sweep against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Raleigh has missed only four games this season and is riding a .235/.315/.457 line with six long balls. The 27-year-old is considered one of the best power options at the catcher position and currently holds an incredible 94.3 mph average exit velocity, 15.7% barrel rate, and 54.9% hard-hit rate which places him in the 96th, 92nd, and 95th percentiles of qualified hitters respectively. Seby Zavala will instead serve as the catcher and bat in the eight hole. Zavala has not made many appearances this season and is a desperation play in DFS against right-handed pitcher Brandon Pfaadt, who enters Sunday with a 4.97 ERA.

Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh delivered for fantasy managers again in the 2023 season. In his age-26 season, Raleigh slugged 30 home runs to go along with an increased .232 average (versus .211 in 2022). He ranked fourth among all MLB catchers in plate appearances with 569 and first in home runs. He walked a little more, struck out a little less but also struggled with a .645 OPS against left-handed pitching. Nonetheless, the switch-hitter's elite defense kept him in the lineup almost every day with designated hitter duties baked into his usage. Raleigh's 57 home runs over the past two seasons are 11 more than the second-ranked catcher, Salvador Perez. He is currently the sixth catcher being taken off the board around pick No. 135. Rotoballer ranks him at 139th overall but at the end of the day, prospective fantasy managers can bank on heavy usage and plenty of power from the 27-year-old who increased his counting stats across the board in 2023.
