Amed Rosario News
Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Amed Rosario struggled in Sunday's 4-2 loss against the Chicago White Sox. Rosario went 1-for-4 with one strikeout and a hit-by-pitch to end a tough weekend series. The Rays shortstop went 2-for-12 (.167) with one RBI, one run, two walks, and three strikeouts in the three games against the White Sox. He has been a solid starter for fantasy managers this season, though, hitting .320 (31-for-97) with five doubles, one triple, 13 RBI, eight runs, two homers, 13 walks, and fourteen strikeouts in 26 starts. He'll kick the week off with a tough matchup versus Milwaukee, but his fantasy upside remains high and desirable for managers.
Tampa Bay Rays president of baseball operations Erik Neander said that the plan is to play infielder Amed Rosario at both middle-infield positions and in the corner-outfield spots in 2024 after signing him to a one-year, $1.5 million deal on Tuesday. Rosario will give the Rays more insurance at the 6 with Wander Franco potentially never playing for the team again given his off-the-field issues, but Jose Caballero will remain the primary option at shortstop. The 28-year-old Rosario has been a lefty killer in his career, so between multiple positions with the Rays in 2024, the Dominican infielder should play rather regularly when the club faces a left-handed pitcher. He'll be most attractive as a low-cost DFS play against southpaws, but with modest power and speed, Rosario's fantasy ceiling is low.
Free-agent infielder Amed Rosario and the Tampa Bay Rays agreed on Tuesday to a one-year, $1.5 million deal, according to sources. The 28-year-old will bring a strong bat against left-handed pitching and should get at-bats at shortstop, second base and potentially in the corner-outfield spots in 2024. It's more insurance for the Rays at shortstop with the possibility that Wander Franco will never play in the big leagues again. Rosario is a career .272 hitter in seven major-league seasons, and he slashed .263/.305/.378 with six home runs, 58 RBI, 15 stolen bases and 70 runs scored in 142 games last year with the Guardians and Dodgers. The move to Tampa makes the veteran infielder more attractive as a deep-mixed corner infielder and for DFS lineups against lefties, who he has hit .298/.339/.467 against in his career.

Tampa Rays Rays utility player Amed Rosario is expected to fill a super-utility role with the club in the 2024 season but it's unlikely to boost his fantasy value. While versatility is an asset, Rosario hit .263 with six homers and 15 stolen bases across 142 appearances in the 2024 campaign, posting a .683 OPS that fell 12% below the league average, as per his 88 wRC+. The veteran doesn't strike out much but rarely draws a walk with a minuscule 4.5% BB% for his career. The 28-year-old has some wheels on the basepaths and hits for a solid average but doesn't bring much power to the table while boasting subpar on-base percentage numbers due to his inability to draw a walk. Even at a 401.54 ADP, Rosario just doesn't bring much to the table for fantasy managers, even if he gains additional versatility.
